Brushless DC motors can be used for a variety of applications, especially those requiring high torque to inertia ratios and variable speed and torque applications. Since commutation is accomplished in circuit elements rather than mechanical rotating brushes and commutators, the Brushless DC motor will have a service life that is significantly longer than a typical Brush motor. Life expectancy of the Brushless motor is limited only by bearing wear and electronic circuit reliability. This results in less wear and tear on the motor, less maintenance needs, and lower risk of the potential for dangerous sparking.
